Competent Crew: A hands-on introduction to adventure
What will you learn?
Encompassing both beginner and intermediate features of sailing, our Competent Crew course is designed to take you to the next step in a fun and engaging way.
We will teach you the fundamentals of a modern-day yacht, how to effectively communicate with your captain and crew and navigate through the sea’s challenges.
Just like the rules of the road, we will introduce you to standard sailing etiquette and emergency procedures such as man-overboard protocol.
From there, the hands-on course gives you the chance to take watch while learning to steer, both under sail and under motor. Sailors will also learn how to trim the sails and steer a compass course.
Valuable life skills such as weather planning and ropework also form a fundamental part of the course.
Along the way, you will also have the opportunity to make new friends and enjoy everything the beautiful Balearics have to offer.
Once you’ve completed the course, you can then take the next step to becoming a captain with our RYA-accredited Day Skipper course. From there, you could go via the Coastal Skipper course to Yachtmaster and prepare yourself for your global journey.
What’s included?
Our courses are designed without stress in mind. We return to port each night and encourage students to book their own accommodation on dry land, though there can be an option to sleep on board on a first-come, first-served basis.
Other than the essentials, make sure to bring a sailing jacket. It is recommended for new sailors to bring sailing gloves to protect their hands.
Don’t forget sun protection and travel insurance. Most of all, come with the desire to learn and become a valued crew member.
Your time on board will be covered by our insurance policy, and we’ll pay all mooring and fuel costs.
